Traveling Without Actually Going Anywhere: Universal Yums from Thailand

3 min readFeb 9, 2025

This was our last Universal Yums box. We decided not to renew our subscription this year, so the May 2024 box from Thailand was to be our last box. It was a great subscription service, but we were getting a bit burnt out after getting 30 boxes! Originally, my husband gifted me a 6 month subscription in 2020. Then in July 2022, we signed up for a 2 year subscription. A few countries had been featured numerous times, and a lot of the snacks lately did not taste good. It was fun to try new things, but we had subscribed for a long time, and this was a good time to stop and save some money. Plus, we were wanting to become healthier and this added sugar was not helping. We definitely recommend this to others, but probably for no more than a year.

So our May 2024 box came with treats from Thailand! The first box from our 2 year subscription in July 2022 was also from Thailand, so it was fitting to have our last box from the same country! How cool! It looks like one of the snacks was put into both boxes.

Our first snack were Tasto Devil Emperor Chili Potato Chips. Only 40% of the bag was full of chips; the rest of the bag was just air! These chips were incredibly spicy, and my mouth immediately went on fire. I had to drink water and then milk right away after eating just one chip! We then ate Chocolate Flavored Coconut Chips; they were super thin curled rectangle shaped chips with a strong coconut flavor. They were a lot less tame and bland than the previous potato chips!

Next, we tasted a Big Roll Grilled Seaweed BBQ which was really good! It had a tangy barbeque flavor and wasn’t as salty as most other seaweed. It was a very thin roll. David loved it too! Following that snack, we ate Sour Punk Spaghetti. These thin ropes covered in sugar had 50% of your daily recommended sugar intake! Predictably, they were gummy and sour. They were good but a bit too chewy in my opinion. Since they were gummies, David didn’t try them since he already knows he wouldn’t like them.

Coconut Rolls Roasted Sweet Corn graced our palates next. These sweet hollow rolls had a slight coconut flavoring, but no corn flavoring. I really liked these, and so did David. Our very last treat in this box and in our subscription were Green Tea Matcha Crème Coated Cocoa Biscuit Sticks. Such a long name! These were extremely thin, but very good. I wish the crème would have coated the entire stick instead of just 80% of it. Also, the package only came with 8 sticks. Overall, the snacks in our last Universal Yums box were quite good!

We also learned some fun facts from our last box including that over 40,000 temples can be found in the country and a 5.5 ton solid gold Buddha statue resides in the capital city of Bangkok. Moreover, Thailand has the nickname of the “Land of Smiles!” We definitely smiled throughout the 30 boxes we have received from Universal Yums, but sometimes good things must come to an end. Thank you to Universal Yums for providing fun memories and tasty treats! And thank you to my readers for reading about these snacks and facts!
