Traveling Without Actually Going Anywhere: Universal Yums from Scandinavia

The November 2023 box (yes, I know it’s been several months later that I’m now writing and posting this!) from Universal Yums came with snacks from the Scandinavian region, but they are only from Denmark and Sweden! I had successfully kept the country/area a surprise from myself and my husband, as I did not open my email from Universal Yums, nor did I look at their Facebook page before finding the box in our mailbox.

The first snack was a tomato and spice potato snack from Denmark, which tasted like bad BBQ Ruffles chips that were too crunchy. David didn’t like them either. Next, we tried cocoa filled oat cookies also from Denmark. I thought these were really good! Each cookie was two thin oat cookies sandwiched together with dark chocolate filling. Then, we ate dill and chive potato chips from Sweden. (Every snack after this was also from Sweden.) The chips were not bad, but not the best either. They tasted just like sour cream and onion Ruffles chips.

Next up were raspberry gummy skulls, which were very chewy, had an intense raspberry flavor, were covered in sugar, and surprisingly good! David didn’t try these since he doesn’t like gummy candy. Chocolately cookie dough balls were next and VERY good! I wish the box came with more than two! They consisted of thin milk chocolate coating a ball of cookie dough. Lastly, we tried gingerbread toffee. They were too hard for me to chew, so I couldn’t eat it. It tasted like caramel when I licked it, so I was surprised that it was touted as having gingerbread flavoring.

Even though the snacks only came from Sweden and Denmark, the trivia throughout the pamphlet came from all Scandinavian countries including Iceland, Greenland, Norway, and Finland. Did you know there’s an Icehotel in Sweden that’s rebuilt every year? Also, there are wild reindeer and an International Day of Failure in Finland! Stay tuned for more travel trivia and travel stories!
