For this month’s Universal Yums subscription box, we received snacks and treats from the great country of India! India is home to many interesting things such as diamond mines, the Sulabh International Museum of Toilets, one of the Seven Wonders of the World: the Taj Mahal, and the world’s biggest tree!

First, we ate mini lentil samosas, which were crunchy snacks stuffed with spicy lentils, cashews, and raisins. They were a bit spicy at first, but then it got much spicier later on! They were messy to eat, and we had to drink milk after eating these snacks!

Secondly, we ate coconut flavored sugar cookies from the brand, Nice. These cookies were very nice like their packaging said they’d be! In India, coconuts are used not only for eating, but also for conducting rituals in Hinduism and Buddhism, as well as for tools and art.

We next bit into dark chocolate cookies called Bourbon. They did not contain any alcohol though! They had dark chocolate cream sandwiched between chocolate wafers, which was delicious! Later, we tried tikka masala corn chips, which looked like the nacho cheese Doritos and tasted a bit like them too. I like chicken tikka masala, so it made sense that I would like the flavor of these chips.

Did you know that both the games of Chutes and Ladders and chess were invented in India? Well, now you do! Also, India has 22 official languages, and its Taj Mahal was originally built as a mausoleum for the wife of the fifth emperor of the Mughal Empire.

I am not a fan of pistachios, so it was no surprise that I did not like the creamy pistachio flavored candies. I also was not a fan of the apricot flavored hard candies. They tasted like peach, and they got stuck in my teeth. The caramel choco eclairs were hard and very chewy; they were just a hunk of caramel without any chocolate!

Next month’s Universal Yums box will be packed with snacks from all across the South American continent!
