Traveling Without Actually Going Anywhere: Universal Yums from Brazil

February 2023’s box arrived with snacks from the South American country of Brazil. While trying the snacks from Brazil, my husband and I listened to Brazilian music: samba and bossa nova! The first treat we tried were pepperoni cracker puffs. They looked a lot like snacks we have tried before from Universal Yums. They were a tad spicy and had a trace of pepperoni flavoring. I did like them even though they left a spicy taste on my tongue and made my nose run a bit after eating several in a row!

Next, we ate sweet and puffy popcorn bites which looked weird, similar to mini mushrooms. They were sweet like their description said they would be, but they had a consistency of Styrofoam. I did not like these whatsoever!

Our third treat was a fruity yogurt stick. The sticks had a fruity smell and were quite chewy. They had a gummy-like texture and consistency. My husband liked the yellow banana flavored stick, while I liked the pink strawberry flavored stick. My husband liked the orange one, and I only thought it was okay. This was an average tasting treat.

Next, we tried a soft peanut candy, which was a square of crumbly peanut butter. I did not like this at all! Our next snack was something that I rally enjoyed! It was a chocolate birthday cake! It was full of chocolate flavoring with a slight coffee flavor.

Lastly, we ate white chocolate passionfruit bites. They had a very weird smell and was a gross combination of passionfruit and white chocolate. Those two flavors should not be mixed together!

Did you know that February is the hottest month to be in Brazil? Sometimes the temperature can get up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit! I also learned from the informational pamphlet that the indigenous people of Brazil called the Piraha have a language that can be hummed and whistled; also, it has no words for numbers or colors! In addition, the country’s name, Brazil, comes from a tree — brazilwood, which is native to the country.

Two of the snacks had pictures of a soccer ball on their packaging, so I am assuming Brazilians love to play soccer! Ha! I couldn’t find a fact related to the sport in the informational pamphlet though. In March, our box will come filled with snacks from the Netherlands, a country that we have already received snacks from. I hope we get some stroopwafels!
