San Antonio, Texas: Parks and Culture
The next day of my trip, which happened to be a Saturday, my best friend and one of her sisters and I drove over an hour and 40 minutes to the McKinney Falls State Park to picnic, hike, and see two waterfalls! We walked on the trails for about 4.5 miles! Thankfully, the trails were not too strenuous. The trails were relatively flat and worn down well for us to walk on. The park was kept up well, and I was surprised to see a line of cars waiting to get in! Thankfully, we had no trouble finding a parking spot, and we did not find the trails to be overcrowded.
On Sunday, we went to a Dia De Los Muertos festival held at La Villita Historic Arts Village, where a lot of people were dressed up as skeletons, and we saw altars for people who had passed away. One altar was dedicated to Koko, the gorilla, who knew sign language and lived in California. At the festival, there were decorated sugar skulls. Sure they were pretty, but they attracted a lot of bees! I do not like bees! My dad is allergic to yellowjackets; I have never been stung by any type of bee or wasp, but I am afraid that I am allergic too! There was also a dance performance and musicians playing trumpets and saxophones. I ate a pulled pork quesadilla, which was new to me! I am used to chicken and steak quesadillas, but this was the first time I had a pulled pork quesadilla. It was good, but I think I will stick to chicken and steak quesadillas!
Overall, my trip to Texas was quite enjoyable! It was nice to catch up with friends, soak in some culture, and see the sights of Texas! I am so glad that the plans for this trip did not crumble!
