The next day, we drove to Cathedral Caverns in Woodville, Alabama. This large cave is absolutely beautiful and definitely worth a visit! We signed up for the first 90 minute tour at 10 am. We had to call two days prior to reserve our tickets since slots fill up fast. The nonrefundable tickets are $20 for each adult, and I believe it was worth it!

The cave was originally opened to the public in the 1950s and was once called the Bat Cave. We didn’t see any bats on our tour though. It was then purchased by the state in 1987, and it’s only been a state park since 2000!

The cave’s temperature is approximately 58 degrees year round, so we wore jeans and a light sweater inside but promptly changed into shorts and a t-shirt after the tour, as it was incredibly hot and humid outside!

On the tour, you are taken as far back as possible, and then you can walk out of the cave at your own pace. I really liked that because you could then stop and take as many photos as you wanted on your way out. I also liked taking the first tour of the day so there wouldn’t be any tours walking back out of the cave and trying to get around our tour group during our tour.

What impressed me most about this cave is that it was so spacious inside! There was about 100 feet from us to the ceiling! There was only one narrow spot, so if you consider yourself claustrophobic, then this is the cave for you! The rock formations, stalagmites, and stalactites were all very pretty! There was even a river inside and an old bridge from before the state bought the cave! This cave is definitely a must-see in Alabama!
