Flying Again
(I wrote this blog post in February or March 2022) In March 2022, the stars aligned, and my spring break matched with my friend’s spring break! She had recently visited me, so my husband and I will be visiting her this time! I had been to Texas before — San Antonio — but never to Austin. This will also be my first time flying since July or August 2019. When my friend visited us in December 2021, it was surreal to be back at the airport. I hadn’t been to the airport since I visited my friend in San Antonio, Texas in either July or August 2019. The pandemic unfortunately put a stop to all of my travel plans in 2020 and 2021.
I am still nervous about germs, but since I am vaccinated and have a booster shot, I feel that I should be okay with flying. Also, positivity rates seem to be decreasing, and there is no new variant on the horizon. I will still wear a mask in the airport and on the plane even if it is not required. I still want to be cautious.
I am looking forward to going somewhere new and of course, seeing my friend in her new home! Her one request is to sing karaoke, so I am on the hunt for a good bar that has karaoke. Neither of us are good singers, but we love to have fun! The last time we went to karaoke was when I was living in Valparaiso, Indiana which would have been anywhere between 2012 and 2015. My go-to song is “She Will Be Loved” by Maroon 5. Maroon 5 is my favorite band, and I love the lyric in that song: “It’s not always rainbows and butterflies, it’s compromise that moves us along.” I think that lyric resonates with me because life comprises of a lot of compromises. For instance, during the pandemic, we had to compromise our comfort to stay home and wear masks. But it was for the good of society, and we are better because of it. I had to make a lot of compromises during the pandemic, but now that the pandemic is slowly fading away, it is time to get out and fly!
