Arkansas and Oklahoma Road Trip: Part Six

You’re probably wondering how long this road trip lasted, aren’t you? Well, we were gone for nine days. We drove over 28 hours and over 1700 miles! This road trip happened at the end of May and early June 2021. David and I had just spent an afternoon in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The next day, we drove to Catoosa, Oklahoma to see a big blue whale statue that was a popular roadside attraction on the famous Route 66! We got there early in the morning before a lot of people had started visiting, so we were able to get some good photos of the marvel!

The whale is in the middle of a pond with signs posted everywhere telling people not to swim in it. It’s quite curious since the whale has slides coming out of its fins and a diving board off its tail!

We then headed further northeast to the Route 66 Nut House, which is another roadside attraction off Route 66 in Claremore, Oklahoma. The main draw of this attraction was that it sold fudge! I know that David loves fudge, so I figured it would be a good spot to stop at! The Nut House also sold trinkets, souvenirs, and of course, nuts.

We also discovered the puzzle room that one of the cashiers nicely told us about! The room was full of puzzles depicting all types of images! Personally, I do not like puzzles. I find them to be extremely boring, and I am incredibly impatient when trying to put them together. After perusing the puzzle room, we then taste tested a few different types of fudge before purchasing 2 boxes of fudge: one for me and one for David. David got a chocolate fudge with sea salt caramel, and I got Tiger Butter fudge which had peanut butter fudge and chocolate fudge mixed together. We then drove back to our hotel to eat some fudge and put the boxes in the fridge.

Next, we ventured to the Route 66 Historical Village in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I was not sure what to expect from this because their website was not very informative. Or maybe this was the attraction that I could only find a Facebook page for. In any case, I did not have high expectations. I knew there would be a train or two outside for us to look at and a building with exhibits pertaining to the famous Route 66.

When we arrived, we found the parking lot blocked off and construction taking place! I believe we found a “closed” sign too. We did find a place to park, and we were able to walk around the train! I was disappointed that their website and/or Facebook page did not say the correct information, but at least we got to walk right up next to a train!

Since we had time to kill, we then went back to The Gathering Place where we walked around a section we had not seen before. There were not many people out even though it was late morning, so we decided to feed the fish! We inserted some quarters into the vending machine, cupped our hands to catch the fish food, and then sprinkled the food out into the pond where koi fish quickly gathered to eat our food!

*I was not compensated for the reviews of any of these businesses.
